Who is the Strongest Avenger?

Who did you choose? Immediately after reading the title, you said a name in your head, who was it?

Some of you may have said Thor, God of Thunder. Others would’ve opted for Captain Marvel, the only Avenger strong enough to battle Thanos one on one. Or did you go for the Hulk or Iron Man?

If you chose any of those, you’re wrong. The strongest Avenger is the Black Widow, Natasha Romanoff.

I’m guessing I’ve quite possibly been met with ridicule as to why I’m suggesting the strongest Avenger is a human with no superpowers, who’s not genetically modified, and is not a super genius.

But, this is what makes her the strongest. Anybody could be Black Widow simply because she is human. The same could be said for Hawkeye, any one of us could be him.

Why did I choose Black Widow over Hawkeye? Her origins. It’s hinted several times within the MCU that Natasha is an orphan; she had no friends or family until she joined the Avengers.

Hawkeye, on the other hand, grew up with his brother, and later married and had children; all of this combined with the fact that Hawkeye’s childhood memories are real and not implanted into his brain, makes his upbringing slightly easier than Natasha’s.

As humans, regardless of how much we love solitude, we need a group of people who are on our side. This helps us grow mentally and emotionally. Natasha did not have this. She was born to be a spy. She was born to follow rules and have no emotional connection to others.

To endure such an upbringing and be able to take control of your own mind and destiny shows true power. No gadgets or God like abilities, simply the strength of your mind.

We may not always be dealt a great hand by destiny, but when destiny is in our hands and we use it to help the world instead of ourselves, that’s true strength.

Spoilers ahead. Read at your own risk.

In the MCU, Natasha becomes the head of S.H.I.E.L.D. after the decimation of Nick Fury and when herself and Hawkeye go to retrieve the soul stone, she willingly sacrifices herself for the greater good.

Iron Man also made the ultimate sacrifice, but without Black Widow jumping off the cliff to obtain the soul stone, Iron Man couldn’t have done what he did. Black Widow’s sacrifice was that one in 14,600,005.

It’s not easy for humans to always see the bigger picture, but Black Widow understands that her sacrifice could bring normality to the world.

She’s also very much aware how all the other Avengers have families and friends outside their group, whereas she has no one. Red Skull tells her the name of her father; can you even imagine not knowing your father’s name, but still willingly sacrifice yourself for all humans?

Superheroes were created so that we could experience extraordinary beings living and interacting with the human world. Beings that, if evolution had gone a different way, we could have become, but being human, being ordinary, doesn’t restrict you from being the strongest; you simply need a strong mind.
