Take your money elsewhere.


Etci Mehmet Steakhouse enters the Manchester food industry having flourished in Turkey and Saudi Arabia, and given its location next to Man Met Uni, I was excited to be visiting the steakhouse with a group of uni friends.

For me, first impressions are everything. I understand waiting times in Manchester are at an all time high; more people want to eat outside, but having to wait almost an hour to be seated with no seating/waiting area is almost absurd. This was the case at the steakhouse.

Some establishments have seating areas for patrons because they understand the wait may be long. Not only does this allow patrons to buy refreshments, but establishments can also make more money. It’s win-win.

Once seated, we ordered and specifically asked for the steaks to be cooked to different degrees. I like my steak medium rare.

Almost two hours after we arrived, we were served our food. The service up to this point was shoddy at best, but if the food is up to scratch, then the dining experience can be saved.

When you ask for your steak to be cooked medium rare, you expect it to have a warm red center, be soft and release some juices when you push down with your fork.

My steak did not come back medium rare. It came back medium well.

The dining experience could not be saved. Etci Mehmet Steakhouse was destined to receive a bad review; now it was just a case of how bad would the review be. Could they make it even worse?

We were a group of six. My steak was cooked wrong, I’d accepted that, but what of the others? Three of the other five steaks were cooked to the wrong degree. A self-proclaimed steakhouse cooking steaks wrong is embarrassing.

But, it gets worse. Peppercorn sauce is generally served with steak; it seems to be the go to for most establishments; however, it has to be heated properly for the taste buds to tingle. Cold. They served the sauce cold. A shambles.

At this point I was starving so I ate bits of my wrongly cooked steak and simply put the comedy of errors down to an establishment that cannot stand the pressure of a busy Friday evening in central Manchester.

The Verdict

I go out to eat because I want an experience that will bring me back time and time again. Etci Mehmet Steakhouse simply does not deliver. It offers gimmicks over good food; a restaurant “for the Gram.”

Not good enough for Fat Day.
